Ardencote Manor

..........and 3 lessons from my grandad

I was on a Teams call with Christian from Santander Retail Investing in the UK, talking about the next phase of work we were planning.

Christian said something that totally stopped me in my tracks. I went completely quiet, so much so that CD asked me if I was alright.

He had just told me the venue for my session in early June would be Ardencote Manor, now a golf and country club, once the home of a wealthy English landowning family.

So why did I react that way?

Ardencote is a few miles from 631 Kenilworth Road where I grew up and after which my business is named. One of the reasons I called my business GiFT631 is to honour the legacy of my grandad - William Fell. Grandad came to live at 631 when my grandma died. He was my first great role model and teacher.

When he left school at 12 he became a stable boy, initially living in the stables with the horses…………at none other than Ardencote Manor!!

Grandad is back left as we look at the photo. This was taken post Ardencote, when he had moved on to become a footman - Downton Abbey style!

I want to share 3 lessons I learnt from my grandad - lessons that apply as much today as when he first shared them:

👉 Relationships are the foundation of everything!

👉How hard do you work on deepening and extending your network and relationships?

👉Live life with a servants/generous heart. Put good out into the world. Never worry about getting it back (#give2get is a core mantra of GiFT631)

👉How do you express gratitude and appreciation? How do you pay it forward?

👉Never make a decision when you are tired. Things will always look better in the morning.

👉Do you match high value/important activities like decision making/thinking/creating to when your energy is at its best?

👉When tired, do you sleep on things?

Timeless lessons from a great man.

📌Christian, I am so grateful to work where my grandad did 120 years before.
